Until now, you may have found yourself disillusioned with conventional psychological methods like CBT or mindfulness that promise mastery over negativity or grounding—yet often leave the soul unrefreshed. You might feel frustrated and guilty for investing time in approaches that seem superficial for your spiritual needs. But I urge you not to blame yourself. Without addressing your religious values, beliefs, and spiritual needs, true peace of soul in this dunya remains elusive.
More critically, without tackling the external factors affecting you and the internal obstacles sabotaging your journey towards Allah, you’ll remain caught in a loop of anxiety, fear, depression, resentment, and constant disappointment. Diagnosing your environment with personality disorders, blaming your upbringing, or pressuring your children won't detoxify your life. This pop psychology reduces our existence to merely mind-body-feelings, neglecting the most essential component—your soul.
Don’t blame yourself—it’s too late for that, and frankly, it's not your soul that’s at fault. We live in a noisy marketplace with too few who can walk the talk and exemplify how self-accountability and Tasfiya (self-purification) truly work. Despite this, life does not stop; you still face obstacles, shocks, traumas, and challenges. And if you’re still reading, perhaps we met for a reason.

My journey began at the tender age of 15, when a near-death experience in a car accident led me to experience my soul leaving my body. This brush with death was not just a wake-up call—it was a profound invitation to deep taffakur (contemplation) on life's meaning. This pivotal moment led me to embrace Islam and devote myself to serving my Ummah.
Moved by the experiences of others and driven by a desire to elevate my service, I made a solemn vow to carry forward the message of transcending pain. With over two decades of experience as a community worker, counselor, student of knowledge, and psychology researcher, I am thrilled to present to you this Spiritual Resilience DIY book. Join me in cherishing these lessons of resilience and renewal, crafted to guide you through your own transformative journey.
In the Muslim community, we're often taught to uphold virtues like sabr (patience), tawakkul (reliance on Allah), and hamd (praise). Each day, we have the choice to liberate or damage our souls: "Everyone starts his day as a vendor of his soul, either freeing it or causing its ruin." (Muslim). Yet, few of us truly grasp how to integrate these principles into our daily lives, especially amidst the relentless stress, oppression, and swift changes that characterize modern life. This book doesn't just explain these virtues; it shows you how to live them, transforming your spiritual and emotional landscape.
1. Experiencing and Honouring the Trial Itself:
This process involves a deep understanding of the effects, lifespan, and roots of life's trials—commonly seen as resentments, relationship issues, losses, bereavements, deaths, divorces, illnesses, migrations, weakening of faith, parenting difficulties, and more. Recognizing these challenges as part of life's tests is the first step toward addressing them effectively. Quran complement this understanding: "And We will surely let them see Our signs in the universe and in their own selves, until it becomes manifest to them that this is the truth" (41:53). This verse beautifully encapsulates how healing signs and guidance are not only found in the world around us but also within ourselves, guiding us through our trials and helping us to see the truth in our experiences, which leads us to second dimension of Ibitla...
Often overlooked, the next step in the life span of ibtila (trial) is our own nafs' ability to deal with these challenges. Unfortunately, many of us become stuck in defense mechanisms or continue living in survival mode, which only creates further traps. Without being conscious of our own psychology, we will never learn how to emerge on the other side of ibtila. Quran highlights the significance of actively working on our inner selves as a path to success: "Indeed, successful are the ones who purify themselves" (87:14), yet without self awareness it becomes another misunderstood ayat in our life. We tend to fall into spiritual bypassing, which deprives us of self-responsibility, or religious shaming, which furthers our diseases of the heart, or spiritual amnesia, causing us to search for better versions of our relationships and misinterpret the ghuraba effect as depression.
